Barclays has announced in a note to media, that after a career totalling four decades, head of Markets for Asia Pacific, Matt Pecot, plans to retire from June of this year.
Having joined the bank in 2018 to lead its Equities business for Asia Pacific, Pecot was promoted a year later, to oversee the full region. To date, his remit has involved leading the bank in Asia across credit and equities (including derivatives, prime and cash electronic execution services), as well as macro across markets including Hong Kong, India, Japan and Singapore.
Before his time with Barclays, Pecot served at Credit Suisse, leading prime services and equities distribution.
The bank is conducting an internal and external search for a permanent successor and in the interim, will appoint Anthony Davies, who is currently senior relationship manager for the markets business in Asia.
Davies joined the bank in 2010 and has over 30 years of experience in the region’s financial markets, the majority of which time he has spent covering financial institutions.
A spokesperson for the bank confirmed with FinanceAsia that the pair will work closely to ensure a smooth transition. She added that, given Davies’ experience overseeing distribution in the region and his overview of the whole of the Markets franchise, he is well positioned to take on the interim capacity.
Barclays operates as a predominately corporate and investment bank across six markets in Asia Pacific; Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan and Singapore.
Elaborating on this further, the spokesperson specified that Hong Kong is the regional hub for Barclays’ equities, prime and credit business; Japan is the hub for yen rates and prime (along with Hong Kong); and Singapore is a regional hub for its macro and credit business.
In other recent senior Asia-based appointments to the Markets team, in August, Mani Joseph took on the role as head of Asia Special Situations, reporting to head of Asia Credit Trading, James Robert. He joined the bank from Goldman Sachs.
In May 2021, Girish Mithran joined the bank as head of Programme Trading for Asia. His LinkedIn profile details his former experience at Deutsche and Goldman Sachs as well as in portfolio management.
